Hello! My name is Jonathan, I have a PhD in Political Science from the European University Institute in Florence and I have been working for 12 years as a University Professor and Researcher. I have worked at the European University Institute in Florence, at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and at the University of Victoria (Canada). I am currently working at the University of York (UK) on a project that aims to promote the protection of civilians and respect for international humanitarian law in armed conflicts.
My research topics focus on the study of migrations, migration policies, the refugee crisis and immigration in the Mediterranean and the Balkans. In the last two years, I have been volunteered (as a researcher and project coordinator), helping to improve the living conditions of refugees in Rwanda and Uganda, as well as coordinating and monitoring projects in Gambia and Senegal to fight against the practice of female genital mutilation.
My volunteering in Kenya with EveryWhere Schools, not only confirmed importance of implementing projects to solve educational needs in contexts of greater vulnerability, but also made me see the great potential and positive impact that even small NGOs can have by promoting solutions in situations of emergency. For this reason, I joined the EveryWhere Schools team, where I strive to contribute my knowledge of emergency situations and my experience doing fieldwork with people in vulnerable situations.
