What do we do?
EveryWhere Schools is committed to working in emergency contexts around the world to ensure quality education for children in vulnerable situations.
Our main work focuses on promoting access to education for children in situations of extreme poverty, conflict, war, disasters and/or emergencies, in order to reduce the potential negative effects associated with being in the midst of a humanitarian crisis or context of emergency.
Education is a basic right included in the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 1951 Convention and, therefore, we work to achieve inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning” (Sustainable Development Goal 4).
Education is a basic human right and promotes the resilience of communities, especially in contexts of humanitarian crises.
What kind of actions do we carry out?

Design and development of educational materials and programs
We work with the community in the design and development of educational materials and programs which are then implemented by local teachers on a permanent basis. These educational programs are focused on the acquisition of knowledge, and social and emotional skills, always in accordance with local values, cultures, preferences and traditions.

We contribute to the sustainability of schools
We contribute to the sustainability of schools in places in crisis, through actions that promote independence and sustainability, implementing quality educational and pedagogical systems.

We provide resources efficiently
We efficiently provide resources to offer or continue educational care for minors in crisis situations, and contribute to the schooling of children and adolescents.

We carry out social awareness
We carry out social awareness work to value the importance and priority of education in crisis contexts. Our conviction is that it is possible to restore and create learning spaces even in the most difficult, unstable and insecure contexts.

Education and Sustainability at the Shakinah School in Kenya
This project, completed in 2019, had the purpose of guaranteeing the self-management and sustainability of the Shakinah School, located in Molo (Kenya).

Education on the Southern Border of Mexico

What is this project about?
We offer educational attention to asylum-seeking, refugee and migrant children and adolescents who are housed in the “Hospitalidad y Solidaridad” shelter, located in Tapachula (southern Mexico).
In collaboration with the NGO “Hospitalidad y Solidaridad”, we have created a space aimed at minors, oriented to reinforce the knowledge of Spanish and mathematics, from a globalized and interdisciplinary approach with which to deepen their knowledge of other subjects such as social, natural, music or art. In addition, we also offer spaces for emotional education that allow the development of values and emotional intelligence. The didactic programming proposed by EWS at Escuela sin Fronteras has been approached through different educational methodologies. The proposed activities have the purpose of motivating the students and making them feel part of the learning process.
The participants in this project are people between 4 and 18 years of age, from Central American countries such as Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, who have been away from their country for weeks or months and, therefore, have been out of school for a long time. In most cases, their situation is unstable and in constant transit and change of residence.
In the last year and a half, we have served more than 200 children and adolescents.
Why do we do this project?
Thousands of families are leaving their countries to reach the US, finding it necessary to cross Mexico to reach their destination. Among all the people in transit, there are more than 10,000 unaccompanied children. This massive traffic situation causes many of them to stay for weeks or months at the same point.
The current reality is that access to formal or informal education for these children is deficient and it is necessary to offer more resources to encourage these minors to attend educational centers and, on the other hand, create safe spaces where they can socialize, have fun and learn.
In February 2020, we held an online seminar to explain this project and the situation of these families in southern Mexico in detail. You can watch it on the following link:
Education and Sustainability of Shakinah School in Kenya

What did this project consist of?
This project, completed in 2019, had the purpose of guaranteeing the self-management and sustainability of the Shakinah School, located in Molo (Kenya). Our intervention consisted of carrying out an investigation in the field that would serve as the basis for developing a self-sustaining financing model that would allow the school not to depend on external aid and to have a team of permanent local teachers.
This project began with an assessment trip to Kenya to understand the needs and reality of the school and the local community. After that, we designed a project together with Agua NGO and started a crowdfunding campaign in which 110 people participated (see news), managing to raise 8,014 euros. The next step was to go to Kenya for two months to carry out an on-site analysis that allowed us to detect the main opportunities to achieve a self-sustaining model for the Shakinah school, and to inquire about suitable sources of income that could be implemented hand in hand with the local community.
Why did we do this project?
The Shakinah school had more than 200 students and had infrastructure and maintenance problems. This school is sustained thanks to the support of Agua NGO, which offers continuous attention for its maintenance and works every day to achieve the best conditions for all students.
The conversations with Agua ONG allowed us to see that a collaboration between the two entities would be ideal, since EveryWhere Schools could help the school become self-sufficient and, at the same time, contribute to the educational and pedagogical model.
What is the result of the project?
After finishing the project, we make a results report where you can see all the actions carried out, the resources used and the results achieved.

Education during the COVID-19 crisis
Given the educational emergency situation in which all countries have found themselves, we have promoted a series of interviews with teachers from different parts of the world with the purpose of sharing ideas and reflections. Thanks to their experiences, we have managed to immerse ourselves in different realities in which thousands of students and teachers find themselves in different parts of the world.
